Why Buy a Used Phone in Egypt?
Egypt has over 100 million mobile subscriptions, and roughly 40% of phone acquisitions are used devices. With 38.5% import duties making new phones extremely expensive, buying used can save you 10,000–15,000 EGP on flagship models like the iPhone 14.
How to Inspect Before Buying
1. Screen Check
Display a full white screen then full black. Look for dead pixels (called "لمبة" or "سبوت" in Egyptian). Ask if the screen is original or aftermarket — copy screens have slightly different brightness and washed colors.
2. Body & Frame
Check screws and edges. Mismatched screws or hairline cracks indicate the phone was opened before. A "فبريكا" (factory-original) phone has consistent coloring and no tooling marks.
3. Battery Health
On iPhone: Settings > Battery > Battery Health — minimum 80%. On Android: use AccuBattery app or dial *#*#4636#*#* for battery stats.
4. IMEI Verification
Dial *#06# and verify the IMEI at imei.info. This confirms the phone isn't stolen or blacklisted. This is the most critical step — a stolen phone can be network-blocked at any time.
5. Network Registration
Since 2023, Egypt enforces IMEI registration. Imported phones without registration get blocked from mobile networks. Always test with an Egyptian SIM before buying.

Tips Before You Buy
- Bring someone experienced if it's your first used phone purchase
- Test with YOUR SIM card, not the seller's
- Match the IMEI on the box with the one on the phone
- Test camera, speaker, microphone, and charging
- If the price seems too good — be cautious. There's likely a hidden issue
